What's On: Christmas in Sydney

With the magical evening of December 24th only a few weeks away, we thought we should give you a list of some things to put you in the Christmas mood before you stuff your face with family friends and open the presents Santa has left under your tree. Sydney is going all out this year, so let’s get started with a few idea’s we’ve found.

1. Darling Harbour Christmas Bonanza

Darling Harbour is putting on a show for all those near and far. Enjoy a stroll by the waterfront, marvelling at the 6 meter tall Giant Christmas Bauble, or messing around with the Sky Castle interactive light installation. There are pedal boats to take you around the water, a golden light tunnel to light up your Instagram feed, and more experiences than we can count. Starting on November 12th, this free experience will put you and the whole family in the Christmas mood.

2. Woolworth Carols in the Domain

2021 will mark the 39th year of Carols in the Domain. This year hosted by Natalie Barr and David Koch, the star-studded line-up will feature Samantha Jade, Phill Burton, Penny McNamee and many more. Make sure to take a note in your calendars for December 18th, as you and the family venture down to the Domain to hear some of the greatest Christmas classics, which will be sure to get you ready for the big night a week later. You can book your tickets today, so make sure to get in quick before it sells out!

3. Centennial Parks Christmas Fair

Centennial Parklands are pulling out all the stops for Christmas this year, as a spot for families to get together and enjoy, some fingers crossed, sunshine. Bring down the little ones to get a photo with Santa, his elves and many of his furry friends, and don’t forget to bring their cossie for the Epic Racer water slide. As the sun goes down, grab a blanket, something to nosh on and maybe even a bottle of wine for mum and dad to enjoy some of the great Christmas classics upon the open-air big screen. And yes before you ask, we will all be doing our yearly re-watch of Love Actually here at FreeGuides, and I’m sure you’ll be able to catch it on the big screen in Centennial. You can catch the fair every weekend of December leading up to Christmas.

4. Markets Abound

There are numerous Christmas Markets popping up around Sydney this year for Christmas, with locally sourced fruits and veg to complement any feast to be had on the big day itself, or any handcrafted artisanal pieces to brighten up a home for the guests that will be coming. The first is the Carriageworks Christmas Market happening in Everleigh on December 23rd. Make sure to register early if you plan on stopping by, as COVID restrictions look to keep capacity to a manageable and safe size. The next night the Rocks by Circular Quay will be abuzz with numerous stalls selling some of the most amazing tidbits that will really light up the face of your secret Santa.

5. Tinseltown Sydney
